Sharing is Caring - Books: "A Royal Romance" by Jenny Frame

"A Royal Romance" cover from Bold Strokes Books by Jenny Frame

Note: This ARC was provided by NetGalley & Bold Strokes Books in exchange for an honest review.

Reading Jenny Frame's debut novel, "A Royal Romance" was an enjoyable experience overall. It was quite evident that Frame did her research in preparing for this novel by becoming accustomed and familiar with the monarchy of Great Britain, and how all is executed as a royal. The intricate detail and devotion to getting the novel "just right" made it all the more fun to read and experience. Following the new monarch Queen Georgina (George) and her exploits with the director of the charity she has chosen, Beatrice (Bea) Eliot, was a ride taking you through England and into Scotland and beyond. Taking place in the not-so-distant future, it was interesting to see how the technology of a more advanced time period was incorporated so easily into this novel. The ease of which the reader comes to understand video phones, ways of transportation, and medical marvels that can make you blush - made it worthwhile to see how having it set in the future made it more relatable, instead of a concept one would need training in order to understand. The character development of both the main characters was a bit choppy, and sometimes stunted, but was also easy to see and understand the changes between both characters as they grew in their own.

The reason for the 4-star rating is due to a few things that were difficult for me to move past while reading the story. Many concepts embedded in the story itself seemed to be discussed or mentioned a few too many times while I was reading. On more than one occasion, I felt as if I were being hit over the head repeatedly over a concept. Too many times was I reminded of why Bea felt a certain way over the monarchy, or the specific way George felt about Bea. It almost felt as if certain parts of the novel were recycled.

Aside from few negative aspects - one I discussed here, as well as others that are mentioned in other reviews that I agree with - the novel still served as an enjoyable read.

Rating: ⋆⋆⋆⋆
